Hi folks.
Can anyone tell me where to find the cmos battery in an Acer Aspire One ,(The little 10 inch screen model)?
My daughter,s one refuses to boot up.
I,ve checked the power supply ,battery etc which seem ok.
When I switch it on I can hear the HD and fan starting, but then it just dies, and the screen remains blank.
I think it might be the Cmos battery that needs replaced,(The machine is 3 years old), but I have no idea where it is located.

See if this helps for a service manual. If not, I will email you one.

I think it is soldered in,(saw it in one of the pics).
May as well have a go at replacing it, the comps dead anyway.

By the way.
I,ve just realised that I formatted the Aspire One to NTFS a couple of years ago. In the instruction vids etc I,ve viewed so far about,'re-booting or jump-starting', I am told to format a flash-drive to FAT, and download BIOS from Acer. Will this still work if the dormant machine has been changed to NTFS?
just a thought.

When you are dealing with the BIOS you are not dealing with the hard disk at all. The BIOS you will be updating from the USB will be on Chips on the motherboard. The formatting scheme of the hard disk is irrelevant.
fritz911 why did you think it might be a cmos or bios problem?
For sure, don't attempt a bios upgrade.
A cmos battery should allow 10 years life at least but would not stop a boot situation.

So, does the machine boot into windows at all?
Mike
It doesn,t boot at all.
I,ve tried doing what it says on instruction vids etc with no luck.
The machine worked fine a few months ago but had problems with the battery.
I bought a new battery and charger and it worked fine.
Then, all of a sudden it died.
The power lights come on, but it is just a black screen, (No blinking cursor or anything).
When I try to switch it on I can hear the HD, (Or maybe its just the fan?), starting up, then it just stops.
Its one of those things that I know is only a minor problem but have no idea how to fix it.
The Cmos battery idea is just a ,'Hunch'.
I have run out of ideas, and I,d hate to bin a perfectly good machine for want of a little knowledge.

Its about 3 years old.
It runs XP and I up-graded its RAM from 1g to 2.
I changed it from Fat32 to NTFS.

I,m a miserable sod and would hate to bin it for want of a little knowledge.
I,d also hate to pay a repair shop to charge me a fortune for a minor fix.

I am not a ,'Tech head', so simple, 'Click by Click', instructions required.
Thanks for taking an interest.
PS: I also have an old Asus A6000 with much the same problem. (Same 12 year old daughter).
With this one the power simply doesn,t turn on even though it seems to charge up ok. I,ve replaced the battery, the cmos battery and the charger.(On the laptop, not the daughter).
fritz911, you should start a New Topic with that one, it's a different problem.
